OpenAI Dots Launch Week: GPT-6 Astra, Grok Bot and Muse
OpenAI Dots launch week: a timeline of the AI agent race
Three companies shipped always-on AI agents within seven weeks of each other, and one of them bought a domain that now points at a rival's launch. Here is the order things happened in, with sources.
The dates
- July 28, 2026. dot.com is registered, with Elon Musk as registrant and an expiry in 2035, according to records reported by Cybernews.
- August 11, 2026. SpaceXAI launches Grok Bot, an agent that signs into your apps and websites from its own cloud computer. Access starts at $120 per seat through Cursor Premium Teams.
- September 8, 2026. Meta announces Muse, a consumer agent powered by Muse Spark 1.3, with a free tier and paid plans at $20 and $100 a month. It later reaches the top of Apple's App Store.
- September 22, 2026. OpenAI releases GPT-6 Astra. It scores 72.6% on OSWorld 2.0 and 41.4% on AutomationBench, up from 18.1% for GPT-5.6 Sol.
- September 29, 2026. At DevDay, OpenAI launches Dots, always-on agents on isolated cloud computers with access to more than 4,000 apps. One dot comes with ChatGPT Pro ($200) or Business Premium ($125).
- September 30, 2026. People notice that dot.com forwards to the Grok Bot download page.
Why freelancers should care
The launch demos (Slack alerts, invoices, schedules, customer feedback) look a lot like the small n8n and Zapier jobs sold on Upwork and Fiverr. Fiverr's own Q2 2026 results show annual active buyers down 21.9% to 2.7 million, while its trends index shows searches for n8n AI automation up 125%. Demand for AI work is growing, but it is moving toward fewer, bigger projects.
My guess is that setting up and policing agents (rules, approvals, credentials, costs) will pay better over the next year than building one-off flows. That is my read, not a forecast from any of the sources.
