How a code-driven Claude video comes together: prompt, plan, scene, keyframes, render, encode.

Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026[1]. Three days later a post by Ajith (@ajith_io) on X showed a slick motion graphics showreel, and the caption said it came from one sentence[3]:

"make a dynamic 15-second motion graphics video that shows what an incredible motion designer you are, like it's your showreel for a résumé. go all out."

Since then my timeline has been full of copies, remixes and arguments about whether the clips are real. I wanted numbers instead of vibes, so this post sticks to what creators actually reported and what those numbers tell us.

QUICK FACTS
  • Model: Claude Opus 5.5, available in Claude Code and the API as claude-opus-5-5[1]
  • Reported run: 900 frames, about 92 minutes, about $81 at API list prices[4]
  • Tools reported: Python, Blender, generated music, all driven through Claude Code[4]
  • Caveat: the logs and billing were not independently verified[4]

The numbers people are sharing

A community tracker that indexes Opus 5.5 videos logged one run with 900 rendered frames, built with Python and Blender, with music made in the same session. The creator reported 92 minutes of work and roughly $81 at API list prices[4].

I did the math on those figures. Split across 900 frames, $81 is about 9 cents per frame, and 92 minutes is about 6 seconds per frame. Neither number is pure render cost. Most of the money likely pays for Claude planning the piece and writing code, and a chunk of the time goes to Blender working through each frame.

Why 900 frames matters

If the 900 frames make up one 15 second clip, the frame rate is 900 ÷ 15 = 60 fps. Film is usually 24 fps and most web video is 30, so 60 fps is a choice you make when you want motion to feel very smooth. Nobody asked Claude for 60 fps. The prompt only said "go all out."

Frames needed for 15 seconds: 360 at 24 fps, 450 at 30 fps, 900 at 60 fpsFRAMES FOR A 15 SECOND CLIP24 fpsfilm36030 fpsweb video45060 fpsreported run900

Four ways people are making these videos

The same tracker reviewed more than a thousand Opus 5.5 video posts and sorted them by how the frames were produced[4]:

RouteTypical toolsGood for
Code-rendered graphicsCanvas, WebGL2, Manim, RemotionType, UI, charts, 2D motion
3D and real-timeBlender (Python), ray marching, WebGL2Camera moves, lighting, product shots
Footage transformationEditing supplied clips, FFmpegRecuts that keep the original audio and length
External model pipelinesClaude coordinating other video modelsRealistic scenes Claude can't draw with code

The first two routes are where Opus 5.5 does the most on its own. Claude writes the scene as code, a renderer turns it into frames, and FFmpeg stitches frames and audio into a file[7][8].

Prompt variations worth trying

Once the original prompt works for you, small edits change the result a lot. Some I've seen people use, plus a few I'd try first:

  • Change the length and subject. One creator asked for a 24 second reel about their own engineering work and ran stock Claude Code on max reasoning with memory off[6].
  • Name the tool: "build it in Blender with Python and render at 30 fps" gives you a faster first draft.
  • Set the format: "vertical 9:16 for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts".
  • Give it your brand: paste your hex colors and point it at your logo file.
  • Ask for a separate sound pass so you can swap the music later without re-rendering the picture.

Code video or generated video?

Models like Sora and Veo generate pixels directly[9][10]. They are still the better pick for realistic people, weather and physical scenes. Claude's code route wins when you need exact text, clean logos and revisions: change a price, a color or the aspect ratio in the script, render again, and nothing else in the shot moves.

I wrote a longer piece on what this means for developers, with a Blender keyframe example and a setup guide, on my portfolio: How Claude Opus 5.5 builds motion graphics from one prompt.
